Two shot at Inkster apartment complex Tuesday morning

Charlie Langton met with people who live in an Inkster apartment where two men were shot early Tuesday morning

- Two men are recovering after being shot inside an Inkster apartment complex - and neighbors say this is just the latest problem at the complex.

Around 3:30 Tuesday morning, a gunman pulled a gun and started shooting at the Cherry Hill Club Apartments, hitting two men. The gunman is long gone but Michigan State Police are hoping someone will come forward with info.

MSP says the people inside of the apartment answered a knock at the door. That's when they realized the person on the other side had a gun and they tried to close the door.

"When they tried to close the door, the suspect shot two or three times into the apartment," Lt. Calvin Hart said.

Steven Harris does maintenance at the complex and says these apartments have seen other problems.

"We've been having trouble with these people for the past couple week. (We plan to) get everybody out of there," Harris told Charlie Langton on Tuesday.

Harris says the apartment is rented to two people but the cops say there were a number of people in the apartment during the shooting, including a baby. The baby was asleep and unhurt in the shooting.

Cops are saying the suspect is a black male with a caramel color complexion, about 17 to 20 years old, 5' 6" and 120 pounds and was wearing either a red sweatshirt or jacket.

Stephen Barting lives in the apartments and says it's not right for kids not to feel safe.

"I have a son of my own so it kind of made me nervous for the kids to be out playing in the snow to make snowmen. I just want it to be a safer environment," Barting said.

Police tell us one victim was treated and released. The other is still in the hospital and the shooter(s) could be charged with attempted murder. Harris has faith that the police will make an arrest.

"Let's get that straight the people over here are fantastic so whoever did whatever they did, it's only a matter of time before these guys get down on them," Harris said.
