Signage for new Glenn Frey Drive goes up in Royal Oak

- New signage for Glenn Frey Drive in Royal Oak will be unveiled Thursday night.

Glenn Frey Drive will run adjacent to Royal Oak Middle School, the former Dondero High where the late Eagles star was a student.

The Royal Oak School Board voted 12-0 Thursday to rename part of Willis Avenue after Frey.

Frey was born in Detroit and grew up in Royal Oak.

He died Jan. 18 of complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis and pneumonia in New York at age 67.

Frey formed the Eagles with Don Henley in 1971 in Los Angeles and co-wrote most of the band's hits, including "Hotel California" and "Take It Easy."
