5-year-old girl shot on Detroit's west side

Police say a 5-year-old girl was shot Saturday afternoon on Detroit’s west side.

The shooting happened on the 16000 Mark Twain Street. Sources tell us that the child was privately conveyed to Sinai Grace hospital with a gunshot wound.

Police say what led to the shooting was an accident between two vehicles. Police describe the incident as a road rage incident.

The driver with the 5-year-old in it followed the other vehicle to a home where the driver got out and ran into a home on Mark Twain.

Moments later, the suspect came out with an automatic weapon, possibly an AK-47 and fired shots at the vehicle, striking the 5-year-old in the head. Homes and vehicles in the surrounding area were also struck with bullets.

The girl is listed in critical condition.

Police say they are searching for an older model white Jeep with red calibers. If you see the vehicle or know anything about the shooting, you're asked to call police immediately.
