Clawson teacher welcomed back after miraculous recovery

- A beloved teacher at Clawson High School made a big comeback after a miraculous recovery.

Students and parents welcomed Doug McKnight back Tuesday night at the varsity basketball game. Last month, the science teacher and basketball coach suffered a sudden heart attack and was in a coma in the ICU. He was given a 10 percent chance of survival -- and he beat the odds.

"Good men are good teachers, and he's a good man, great father, great husband, great son to his parents. He really is what makes Clawson great and really the students, the community, everything about this small town has risen up for this family and everybody's pulling for them and doing whatever we can for them," says principal Ryan Sines.

He came home from the hospital Tuesday.

Students say Mr. McKnight has had a big impact on them, and now he's inspiring so many others. Many of them wore t-shirts with the hashtag #DougStrong.

There was also a fundraiser at Tuesday night's basketball game with proceeds to help the family with medical bills.
