DETROIT (WJBK) - The Joe Louis Arena closed for good earlier this year but you can own a piece of Red Wings memorabilia starting on Saturday.
The Red Wings and Olympia Entertainment will start to auction some iconic parts of Joe Louis Arena. Perhaps the biggest prize of them all is Al the Octopus, the purple mascot that dropped from the rafters of the Joe in the playoffs.
There's also an old goal, the players door to the Olympia Club that reads 'Home of 1996-1997 Stanley Cup Champions', the "Greatness is a Choice" sign that was displayed in the Red Wings' locker room, photos celebrating Stanley Cup Championship teams and Red Wings greats, and arena signage.
The bids all open at $25 each and all come with a removal and handling fee. In Al's case, it's $300. A locker fee is $400.
You can bid on these amazing pieces of Red Wings history December 9th through 16th via the website bidonthejoe.com
Or you can let the sports bars go at it and visit the memorabilia at your favorite drinking spot in the future.
