Amber Alert canceled, 5-year-old Port Huron boy safe
PORT HURON, Mich. (WJBK) - The Amber Alert issued for a 5-year-old boy from Port Huron has been canceled.
He was found safe this morning in Oakland County and his father was taken into police custody.
Saturday, police issued an Amber Alert for 5-year-old Douglas Ball, who was believed to be with his 39-year-old father by the same name. The child was reported missing Saturday at approximately 4:30 p.m.
The father is a person of interest in a homicide in the City of Port Huron. Police say they were called to a home in the 1200 block of Rawlins for a well-being check shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday.
The parents of the deceased victim contact the police.
When they arrived, they found Lydia Rose Ball, 30, dead inside of the home. Her husband, Douglas Ball, was identified as the suspect.
Police learned that he had fled the scene with his 5-year-old son of the same name and issued an Amber Alert.
Police released the following description of the child and suspect to the public:
The child, Douglas Ball, is 5-year-old, 4'5", weighing 100 lbs with blonde hair and blue eyes.
The suspect is the child's biological father Douglas Ball, who is 39 years old, 6'4", 240 lbs with blonde hair and blue.
They were believed to be in a 2000 Cheby Malibu in a maroon or brown color with a plate number DFC 9403.
While investigating the crime, police were led to a mobile home park in Orion Township early Sunday morning. They surrounded the home and learned that Ball and his son were inside.
The Oakland County Sheriff's SWAT team responded to the scene and made entry to the home. They secured the child safely and took Ball into custody at approximately 8:20 a.m. Sunday.
Ball has been transported back to Port Huron and the investigation continues. An autopsy is scheduled this week for Lydia Ball and the case will be presented to the St. Clair County Prosecutor's Office.
