'American Horror Story' season 7 takes place on Election Night in Michigan

The next season of American Horror Story is just a few weeks away and this season looks to be one of the most watched in Michigan.

The seventh season of the FX drama, named American Horror Story Cult, will premiere and take place on election night in Michigan. The trailer, released on Tuesday, starts with the question "What's the thing that scares you the most?" From there, a TV anchor is heard announcing Donald Trump as the next president of the United States. Then screaming from multiple people.

The focus of election night shouldn't come as a surprise to AHS fans. Showrunner Ryan Murphy announced earlier this year that the season would be based on Election Night:

"American Horror Story is going to be about the election that we just went through. And what I’m interested in doing is not just the obvious, single-minded point of view but rather express all sides of that equation. What needs to happen in our country now is for people to listen to each other - we may not always agree with each other and we may be horrified by what the other side is doing but we have to move toward understanding. So that’s one example of what I’m going to do. And then all of the stuff that I’m developing now is going to be about illuminating and highlighting people who don’t have a voice in our culture -- people who are ignored by the current administration and who are afraid and feel terrorized that their lives are going to be taken away. I’m interested not just in writing about those people but also in using my financial means to give back to them as well."

The trailer features just one shot of the Detroit skyline with the words Michigan 2016 in red. Beyond that, there's a lot of clowns, a lot of screaming, but no other shots of Detroit or Michigan.
