Ann Arbor teacher arrested for trying to meet minor for sex

- A 57-year-old teacher and coach at an Ann Arbor high school was arrested Wednesday after undercover detectives caught him making arrangements to have sex with a child.

Gerald Holley of Pioneer High School has been charged with three counts of child sexually abusive activity, a 20-year felony, and one count of using a computer to commit a crime, a 15-year felony, according to the Macomb County prosecutor's office.

The sheriff's office's Macomb Area Computer Enforcement unit was alerted to a man on social media who was believed to be a child sexual predator. Undercover detectives began speaking with him Monday.

Police say Holley arranged to meet with and have sex with who he thought was a child, and was arrested when he arrived to the meet up location.

"As often occurs in cases such as this, this man pursued a career which surrounded him with young people," said Macomb Prosecutor Eric Smith in a release. "I urge parents to remain vigilant of all those who supervise their children, even longstanding 'authority' figures. The predators are out there, and they make it their business to get right next to your kids."

Holley was arraigned on Friday in Clinton Township's 41-B District Court. His bond was set at $50,000 and must wear a tether if released.

"This is the one of the many reasons we run a computer crimes unit. In order to protect our children, these highly trained investigators continuously monitor the internet as well as social media platforms to find these predators," said Sheriff Anthony Wickersham.

Holley's probable cause hearing was scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Oct. 25.

According to his bio page on Pioneer, Holley was selected Michigan coach of the year in 2004 and has been the Varsity Head Coach since 1995.

The school district told FOX 2 that Holley has been placed on administrative leave.
