Annual 'Guns & Hoses' charity hockey game benefits fallen MSP Trooper Chad Wolf

ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WJBK) - Royal Oak police and fire departments dropped the puck Saturday evening to support the family of fallen MSP Trooper Chad Wolf in its annual Guns & Hoses charity hockey game.

"They're very appreciative of our efforts," said event co-founder Patrick Stanton of the Royal Oak Police Department. "They know the law-enforcement community in the firefighter community stands behind them."

Chad Wolf was killed last year after serving with the Michigan State Police since 2008. On the morning of August 28, 2015, Wolf was patrolling on a motorcycle, when a 69-year-old abruptly switched lanes and struck Wolf accidentally.

Wolf was dragged for several miles before the driver stopped at a rest area in Springfield Township where he found Wolf alive beneath the trailer, but he later died at the hospital.

The trooper's wife did not speak at the event Saturday evening, but the proceeds will benefit her and his four children. Since 2010, the annual Guns & Hoses hockey game has raised nearly $32,000 for various charities in the Metro Detroit area.

"We have our friendly rivalries out on the ice, but when it comes to us, our families, and our safety we're all on the same team," Stanton said.
