Armed police impersonators break into Detroit home

DETROIT (WJBK) - Four armed men burst into a home on Detroit's southwest side, claiming to be police. But this was no official police business. They held up the homeowner and took off with her belongings.

This happened at a home on Lockwood Street, which is near the intersection of Junction Street and Michigan Avenue.

Police say a woman in her 50s was inside when three white men and one black man announced themselves as police and came crashing into the house.

"I heard pounding and my door being kicked in," the woman, who did not wish to be identified, told FOX 2's Maurielle Lue. "When I went to get up, there was four males in my house. They had masks on; they had hoodies on and they all had guns."

A police source tells Lue the man seemed to know what they were looking for and asked for a safe but the woman didn't have that, so they think it's possible they hit the wrong house.

"They identified themselves as police and told me and my roommate to get down on the floor and not look at them," the woman says. "I was scared for my life. I was scared for my dogs. I was scared for my roommate. I just couldn't believe this was happening."

She adds that her roommate asked the men to show their badges but they didn't have any, so she didn't believe they were officers. She also says the house across the street was robbed the week before.

They took off with rent money, a television, a video game console and a coin collection.
