Armed robbers hit charity poker room in Taylor

TAYLOR, Mich. (WJBK) - Two masked men burst into a charity poker game at Momo's in Taylor and stole money meant for local veterans.

"We heard somebody say 'Everybody on the f-in floor now, this is a hold-up," said a witness. "I look over, I'm thinking April Fool's joke. When I saw the Glock I knew it wasn't a joke."

This man and more than 30 others are still reeling after their late-night charity poker game at Momo's was held up by armed robbers.

It happened just after midnight Friday. Two men, who police believe have played at the poker room before, stormed through the door with hand guns. Their faces were covered by blue masks.

"We know from the witness statements that the suspects were in earlier in the night then returned to do what they were going to do," said Taylor Police Chief Mary Sclabassi. "We are hoping to get some video, some images out as soon as we possibly can."

The two masked robbers got away with an undisclosed amount of cash, police say that money was being raised for local veterans, intended for the VFW in Wyandotte.

"The nerve of them coming into our house, taking our money that we work hard for, that we tried to go just have a little fun," said the witness, who was armed with a handgun himself. "If I could have done something last night without hurting somebody else, it would've been done."

The only reason the CPL holder says he didn't fire was because the poker room was so crowded.

"Where will my bullet go?" he said. "I chose not to fire."

The men escaped without firing their weapons and no one was injured.

Police say the suspects are both heavy-set white males, both standing about 5 feet 10 or 5 feet 11, one has reddish hair and one has brown hair with a receding hairline and a beard.
