Army vet speechless as he's welcomed home to new house

- An Army veteran who spent more than 15 years serving his country is getting paid back with a new home.

For 16 years, Sgt. Tyrone Segrest served the United States Army, including four deployments to combat zones. Now, as a thank you for his service, he's getting the keys to his new home.

Segrest humbly walked up to his new home Wednesday - speechless.

He was in the U.S. Army for 16 years, serving four tours in Iraq and went on a peacekeeping mission to Bosnia. It's to see why the Military Warriors Support Foundation chose to give the keys to this renovated Redford home to Segrest as he transitions from military life.

"That is a tricky transition and we really want to be supportive so that they can be successful as they come back home," said Katie Slattery with Military Warrior Support Foundation.

Bank of America donating the home to the foundation and Segrest was chosen as the beneficiary.

"They find the need and identify the people that we can help best," said Bank of America senior VP John McManus.

Segrest is also receiving some help financially -- each month for three years.

"At the end of three years we will deed this house over to him, free and clear," Slattery said.

Not only did he get the home, he got a fully furnished home too, including cozy bedrooms for his daughters, a fireplace, and a giant backyard.

"I'm an outdoors person. So barbecues, family get togethers and just, time with family. It's surreal."

Segrest is grateful but also thinking of all of the men and women who've served with him.

"Not a lot of people get this opportunity. I know tons of people who served who really deserve it," Segrest said.

The foundation and everyone who helped organize the gift says Segrest is more than deserving. The foundation hopes to help many more struggling veterans and their families.

"How do you thank everybody? You just don't know the effect that you have on the veteran and the family."
