Artist paints Aretha Franklin tribute near singer's home church

- A mural of the Queen of Soul near Aretha's Franklin home church is turning heads.

The image is painted on an empty building that's sale and stands in the shadows of Franklin's home church on Linwood in Detroit. People driving and walking down the street say they have to stop just to take a photo or get a closer look. The mural was created by an artist named Sintex.

"It just embodies rest in respect. She's the Queen of Soul," he said.

He says he started painting Sunday morning and came back Monday afternoon to do some touch up work.  After about 12 cans of spray paint, he says his tribute to Ms. Franklin is complete. As Sintex puts his final touches on this building he's also reflecting on what could happen to his work when this building is sold.

"Unfortunately, you know, it happens, I had previous works get torn down or get damaged or things like that -- or get painted over by new owners," he said.

But Sintex says he's not done honoring the Queen, so be on the lookout for more tribute.
