A 13-year-old boy is facing adult charges after he took his dad's girlfriend's car for a ride with his 8-year-old sister in the passenger seat.

Initially, Macomb County Deputies thought the driver was drunk when they got the call of an erratic driver. As it turns out, they weren't under the influence, they were kids and they were running from the cops.

Deputies say the 13-year-old boy was driving with his dad's girlfriend's car with his 8-year-old sister in the passenger seat on Saturday night. Apparently, they took off after everyone went to bed.

"Next thing you know the car's gone and they're out for a joyride and being chased by police," Macomb Co. Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said.

Another driver spotted the erratic driving and called police. A deputy figured it was a normal traffic stop and pulled them over.

"As he was getting ready to get out of the car, the driver of the vehicle takes off," Wichersham said.

Speeding down Metroparkway, police still assumed they were chasing an adult. Then the car crosses traffic and spins out and two kids jump out.

"You see the car spinning through the median, you would think - I would think - the 8-year-old girl would have been scared," he said.

The father tells police he had no idea what happened. That 13-year-old boy is now facing possible fleeing and eluding charges.

The girl was sent home with her mother and the boy was taken to the Macomb Juvenile Justice Center. An investigation into both parents is underway.
