A family was already recovering from a tragedy that happened in December, now they are mourning the loss of a little girl.

Patrina Christian and Dewayne Wells' 18-month-old daughter Raylyn died New Year's Eve.

"No parent should ever have to go through this," Christian said. "We're going to be okay."

Patrina and Dwayne were shopping at Citi Trends in Inkster when their baby Raylyn had a seizure.

"She started turning blue and purple," Patrina said. "I started calling out 'Somebody help my baby.'"

Employees and shoppers rushed to help and soon after the little girl was taken to Garden City Hospital. It was there that they learned their baby girl had died.

"Knowing there was nothing I could do to help the situation or help by baby," said Dewayne Wells. "Hopeless. That is how I felt."

That feeling is a familiar one for Dewayne, His cousin Jasmine Copeland died in a car crash in early December.

And Wells' 14-year-old distant cousin Savion Robinson died in a house fire in Van Buren Township a couple weeks ago. He reportedly rescued his sister and guided his 2-year-old niece to the front door.

And now tragedy has struck again.

"Hug your kids and tell them you love them, because you never know," Christian said. "Just love your kids, that's all I can say."

Words of wisdom this New Year's Day and wisdom hard won.
