A second woman has been charged in the death of an 11-month-old who drowned in raw sewage two weeks ago after falling through a hole in a Detroit home.

Tonya Peterson, 28, was arraigned on one count of second-degree child abuse and one count of involuntary manslaughter for the death of Ca'mya Davis.

The little girl died July 6 in the basement of the family's home in the 15000 block of Ferguson. According to police, the baby's mother, Dasiah Jordan, left the house to get her hair done. She left her baby along with her 10-year-old in the care of babysitters who were on their way to the home.

"Based on the allegations against you, the information in the file, the court finds these allegations not only serious but assaultive in nature," Magistrate Jeffrey Kleparek said during Peterson's arraignment.

Jordan, the girl's mother, was arraigned on Tuesday with the same felonies. Peterson wasn't just her babysitter that night, she was also Jordan's landlord and homeowner.

"You allowed those individuals to live in a room and place the children in the room where there was a hole in the room that fell to the basement," Kleparek said.

He also said that Peterson knew about the standing water in the basement and set her bond at $55,000/10 percent.

Jordan was given a $25,000/10 percent bond on Tuesday.

Both women will be due back in court next week.
