UPDATE (6 p.m.): The police situation has been resolved peacefully, according to the city of Melvindale's Facebook page. Original story is below.

A police situation in Melvindale near Hanna and Elizabeth Streets Monday afternoon caused schools to be locked down.

Officers were serving a search warrant on a suspect in a homicide investigation when schools in the area were allowing parents to sign their children out.

One suspect was arrested and two others are being detained, police told FOX 2.

A message on the Melvindale city Facebook page asked residents to avoid the area, calling the situation a barricaded gunman. Detroit police say the situation was not a barricaded one.
