Berkley students raise money for triple amputee veteran

BERKLEY, Mich. (WJBK) - A group of middle school and elementary school kids in Berkley helped raise so a veteran who is a triple amputee could have a new place to live. These students at Anderson Middle School and Pattengale Elementary have raised almost $3,000 to go towards Building for America's Bravest.

"We couldn't be prouder of the work of these young ladies, the selfless work. This is an ongoing group that they work with and they expand that group every year, and honestly be couldn't be prouder of their willingness to give back. Obviously, something tragic that happened, something good will come out of that," says principal Michael Ross.

The money raised will go towards smart technology in an all-new home being built for Staff Sergeant Ben Eberle and his family. He lost his limbs after an explosive went off in Afghanistan while he was serving our nation.

The house is being built in Alpena.

Wednesday morning, Berkley students gathered in an assembly with SSgt. Eberle and his family as they watched the first wall of their home get put up via a livestream. You can watch footage from the assembly in FOX 2's Roop Raj's report above.
