Bernie Sanders calls for Snyder's resignation in first campaign stop in Michigan

YPSILANTIA, Mich. (WJBK) - Fresh off his huge win in the New Hampshire primary, Senator Bernie Sanders brought his campaign to Ypsilanti to get support leading up to next month's primary in Michigan.

Senator Bernie Sanders took the podium at Eastern Michigan's Convocation Center where he was received with a very warm welcome.

The Democratic contender had a variety of topics in speech to the packed house. He focused on multiple issues, from campaign finance to healthcare to education. But he also talked about a topic that has dominated Michigan news of late: the Flint Water Crisis, where he met with families before the speech.

"I really did not know how ugly and how horrible and how terrible what is going on in that comunity. It is beyond my comprehension that in the year 2016, in the United States of America, that we are poisoning our children."

Sanders said he didn't want to be overly political but acknowleged that he had a position on Governor Rick Snyder's time in offfice and thinks it needs to end now.

"And I've called for Snyder's resignation," Sanders said. "If the local and state government cannot protect those children then the federal government better get in there."

He also focused on other issues including Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia's passing and urged the Senate to hold hearings on the President's nominee.
