Body found floating at Gallup Park

A park jogger made a shocking discovery in the Huron River at Gallup Park in Ann Arbor.

"A passerby down near the river thought that he saw some arms kind of floating in the river, walked a little bit closer and recognized that he indeed saw a body," says Derrick Jackson, Director of Community Engagement with the Washtenaw County Sheriff.

The name of the man had not yet been released at the time this story aired as police were still notifying family, but Jackson would say the person was a white man in his 50s. The cause of death is still being determined.

"It could be an accident; it could be a suicide; it could be a homicide. It's really just too early," Jackson says. The victim's car was found near the park but authorities say there was nothing inside that indicated criminal activity.

The medical examiner's officer wants to review toxicology reports before making their ruling.
