Body found in abandoned home is missing 4-year-old's mother

- Detroit police have confirmed to FOX 2 that one of the bodies found in a burned-out home on the city's west side is the mother of the 4-year-old girl who was the subject of an Amber Alert issued this weekend.

This story was updated after a media contact with Detroit police initially fold FOX 2 the second body found in the home was confirmed to be missing 4-year-old Savannah Walker, but Chief James Craig later said at a press conference that they would like to do more DNA testing before confirming that. He added her injuries were so severe that a positive ID could not yet be made.

"This is a horrific crime," Craig said.

Detroit police added that an older daughter identified Savannah's mother. Police have not confirmed how the two were killed but the case is under review by the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.

An Amber Alert went out Saturday for Savannah. Marcus Hightower, the man wanted in connection with her disappearance, turned himself in on Sunday and is being questioned by police.

We're told family members went to police in Livingston County on Tuesday of last week because they feared for Savannah and her mother, 38-year-old Heidi Lynne Walker, who had been dating Hightower. There had reportedly been some domestic violence issues in the past.

An Amber Alert was issued on Saturday when family members went back to talk to state troopers at the Michigan State Police post in Brighton when they still hadn't heard from their loved ones.

A Gofundme account has been set up in honor of Savannah and Heidi Walker to help pay for a memorial service. Click here for more information.
