Body pulled from Detroit River identified as missing John Kimbrough

The loved ones of formerly missing John Kimbrough are awaiting answers from the medical examiner after his body was pulled from the Detroit River.

John's girlfriend, Letta McPherson, says the 51-year-old man hates the water and didn't even know how to swim.

"Each day is trying. I think I have cried a river," she said.

For three months, Letta led a search effort to bring her boyfriend back. John had been the center of her world for six years.

Missing: What happened to John Kimbrough?

"The last couple months have been agony, and now that we know, it's still difficult." she said.

The searching ended Wednesday when his body was pulled from the Detroit River, near the Riverside Marina. His family was already dealing with the death of John's brother two days before John was found.

"When it does hit me, I think it's when I see him but right now it feels like I'm still searching for him," Letta said.

Family desperate for answers about John Kimbrough who was last seen on December 7

John was last seen at that marina on Dec. 9, 2017 leaving a holiday party. He was seen on security camera  wearing a maroon suit, matching hat and fur coat. Police say he was still wearing the same clothes when he was pulled from the water this week.

"It's not the way we wanted him back but we got him back," Letta said.

He left on foot. they know that because his car was still here parked in the lot and towed just a couple days later.

The Wayne medical examiner hasn't released a cause of death yet, leaving Letta and John's Family with so many questions. Especially because she says he was scared of the water because he couldn't swim.

"I have no idea. I have no clue how he got in the water," Letta said.

They can't make funeral arrangements until John's body is released. Letta says she knows he's still looking after her.

"I lost the best man I ever had in my life and I going to miss him so much," she said.
