DETROIT (WJBK) - Police are investigating after a body was found Wednesday morning on Detroit's northwest side.
Police say the body was found around 8 a.m. in the 20000 block of Fenmore Street, which is near Eight Mile and Southfield Road.
According to police, the victim is a black man in his 30s and was found with burns on his arms and legs, and that a gas can was also found nearby.
"We just woke up to police knocking on our door asking did we hear anything," neighbor Deonte Turner said.
Investigators say the man who owns the house discovered the burned body on the kitchen floor around 8 Wednesday morning. Authorities say the fire was set inside the house, which a neighbor says has been vacant for three months.
"I knew the people that lived there 3 months ago but nobody's lived in the house," Percy Jean Scott said. "I've been at this house since 1983 and nothing like this has ever happened to my knowledge on this block."
The neighbors we talked to say the front window of the home has been broken for a while.
Detroit police are investigating the crime and are also working to determine how and where the man was killed and how long his body had been inside this house. Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
