Calling all angels - the city of Detroit is starting its drive for Halloween week volunteers.

Mayor Mike Duggan was joined by police and fire officials and community leaders Friday to recruit volunteers during the Angels' Night Patrol from Oct. 29 through Oct. 31.

"We want everyone's help," Duggan said. "Last year we had 8,000 we want to increase that."

You can get involved by watching a vacant property, patrolling a neighborhood, or simply turning on a porch light between dawn and dusk

"I'll be out all three nights," Duggan said. "Driving in the every one of the council districts."

Fire officials say they will increase staffing and they also want to make residents aware of gasoline purchase restrictions

"From October 27, 28, 29, 30, 31st, there should be no dispensing of gasoline into containers from noon until midnight," said Fire Commissioner Edsel Jenkins.

Police will also enforce an emergency curfew which calls for kids 17 and under to be with a parent or legal guardian from 6 p.m. on Oct. 29 to 6 a.m. on Oct. 30 and from 6 p.m. on Oct. 30 to 6 a.m. on Oct. 31.

"The regular curfew ordinance will resume on Saturday, Halloween, 15 years old and under curfew begins at 8 p.m. until 6 a.m.," said Assistant Police Chief Steve Dolunt. "Sixteen and 17 years old from 9 p.m. until 6 am."

City officials say the key is to keep people safe. On Saturday October 3rd Mayor Duggan and his appointees will be out knocking on doors to recruit volunteers
