Clinton Twp man charged with murder in workplace shooting

Man charged with shooting and killing boss and wounding a co-worker has been charged with murder for his boss' death.

Jerry Motley, Jr., was arraigned on murder charges Thursday for the death of 61-year-old Tom Badke at Reliable Fence Company in Clinton Township.

A former girlfriend says he worked at the company for a couple of years and during their relationship she never saw any anger or violence on his part))

"Fun, loving, caring. I mean, he was around my children," Katie Somers said.

In court on Thursday, friends and family said Motley was bullied at work and that led to the shooting.

"When your higher up is not doing anything about the racial slurs, the slandering of his name, items being thrown at him," his brother Lemarcus Batts said.

Motley was charged with first degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. A judge denied bond and Motley sat quietly while his attorney entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.

The victim's family did not want to speak with FOX 2.

"It's a tragedy for both families, everything could have been avoided," Batts said.

Motley will undergo a competency evaluation and is being held at the Macomb County Jail.
