A Clinton Township resident who fell victim to a scam that cost $35,000 is getting almost all of their money back thanks to the hard work of the Clinton Township Police Department.

According to a police, a citizen in the city got a call in May stating that they were from the Publishers Clearing House and had won $2.5 million. In order to claim her cash, the scammer said they had to send moneygram payments.

Those payments were made to parties inside and outside the united states and totaled $34,923.99.

Once the victim realized what had happened, they called police. A Clinton Township Detective worked diligently and on Tuesday, police announced that they had recovered nearly all of the funds for the victim.

Police are using this story as a change to remind everyone to verify the authenticity of any sweepstakes or lottery winnings with the company directly.
