Community supports family after Dearborn Heights children murder
Four young lives killed and their mother left seriously injured.
As a Dearborn Heights man awaits trial on murder charges, a community rallies to help those left behind.
Pink balloons fill the room, pink ribbons on their arms and all the fixings for a delicious dinner. But what looks like a party is instead a fundraiser at a Bellacino's pizza and grinders for family of a fellow employee - gone at the young age of 17.
"It's complete devastating news to hear," said manager Isabella Leopardi.
Kara Allen was supposed to come to work at the Dearborn Bellacino's on Michigan Avenue last Wednesday - instead her family called with the devastating news - she was dead - along with her 19-year-old brother Chadney Allen, Jr. and her younger sisters, 4-year-old Kaleigh Green and 5-year-old Koi Green. All were murdered by the same man - their mother's husband and father of the small children - Gregory Green.
"We're all a family here, we all care about each other," Leopardi said. "So once we heard we lost a member of our family of Bellacino's - we wanted to help - especially her family, because they're probably going through ... you know, words can't describe."
So until 10 p.m. Monday, proceeds from all sales from the Bellacino's at 22537 Michigan Avenue in Dearborn will go to help Kara's mother Faith Green with medical expenses. She was stabbed and shot by her husband and now home from the hospital and faced with burying her four beautiful children.
O.H. Pye III Funeral Home in Detroit is donating their time and services covering all the costs of laying them to rest. They say they just had to help.
"Doing children's services already is difficult," said Arnessa Pye, funeral director. "But to do four - at one time - that is just absolutely unbearable."
In the 36 years that we've been in business we've never seen anything like this before - never," said Ozie H. Pye IV, executive director. "To kill an entire generation, a whole family like that, was just something that was unprecedented - we had never seen that level of cruelty before in our city. It was just too awful."
Visitation will be from 3 - 8 here at Pye funeral home, 17600 Plymouth Road in Detroit on Wednesday and Thursday.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 30 at Detroit First Church of the Nazarene, located at 21260 Haggerty Road in Farmington Hills - family hour is 9 a.m. and service time is 10 a.m. Floral arrangements will be accepted at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 28, condolences may be sent via website at www.pyefuneralhome.com.
