A record breaking $16 million has been poured into the Oakland and Ingham County 8th congressional race that could determine which party controls Congress next year.

Opponents GOP incumbent congressman Mike Bishop and Democrat Elissa Slotkin are locked in a contentious congressional battle and took to the radio to debate.

"The role of money in politics is toxic and they're not wrong, right? So I made the decision back in January to not to take any corporate PAC money. That was something I felt was a matter of integrity," WHO said.

Bishop says that's just not true.

"For her to preach about not taking corporate PAC money is ... it's insulting, is what it is, because 90 percent of her money comes from outside of the district," he said.

As a state senator, she says Bishop blocked consumers from suing drug companies and now he is taking their money.

"That is making it difficult to sue the very companies he takes money from now," Slotkin said.

Again, Bishop says that's just not true.

"It's more of the same -- lies. lies, lies," he said.

Bishop contends it was more lies when she says he voted to wipe out insurance for pre-existing conditions.

The two disagree on shutting down Pipeline Five. He favors a tunnel, and she does not.

On expanding the state's civil rights law to include the LGBTQ community:

"This one to me is just a no brainer," Slotkin said.

"Adding to that list to me is not a way to solve the problem," Bishop said.

As for the Dr. Ford allegations that Judge Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her, Bishop says he tends to believe women who come forward but was there proof?

"I don't know for a fact," he said. "That there is a connection."

"I believed her," Slotkin said.
