Suspect in custody; photo released of murder victim's ankle bracelet

Authorities continue to investigate what happened to a woman who was found beaten to death inside an abandoned Highland Park parking structure Monday. Police are looking for the killer and are trying to determine who the victim is.

Investigators were questioning a person of interest overnight, and now say Tuesday morning that this person is a suspect and is under arrest.

"We take it very seriously and all resources are working on this, now," says Det. Brian Menge, Highland Park police.

Run-down structures can often attract adventure seekers or urban explorers. Police say two people were doing just that around 3 p.m. Monday afternoon when they made the discovery.

"They came in here to take some photographs and they discovered a body here and called 911," Menge says.

Police say it is the body of a black woman thought to be in her early 20s. She is about 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 110 pounds.

"She's got some distinctive clothing on," Menge adds. "She's got pink jeans on and brown furry boots, a nice brown leather belt with a gold buckle to it, with a pink shirt as well."

"She was dressed up as though she was going to a party or leaving a party," says Marli Blackman, Highland Park press secretary.

A source close to the investigation provided FOX 2 with a photo of an ankle bracelet the woman was wearing, hoping someone will recognize it and call police.
