DDOT bus driver injured in accident in Highland Park

Police are investigating an accident in Highland Park that involved a DDOT bus and a truck.

The accident happened along Woodward Avenue at the intersection of Manchester Street, which is just a few blocks north of the Davison Freeway.

Police say the truck's driver was going southbound on Woodward and drove through a red light, crashing into the DDOT bus. Two passengers were on the bus and reported being unharmed, although the driver appeared to be injured. Police would not elaborate on the DDOT driver's condition but we know that driver is in the hospital. The truck's driver was not injured.

Police have not yet said if they believe alcohol was a factor. The accident happened around 5:30 a.m. and investigators were on the scene for many hours after that, and morning traffic was directed through neighborhoods. The roadway has since reopened.

The two DDOT passengers have been picked up by another bus.
