Dearborn PD search for nightclub shooter after booze brawl

A brawl over booze turned a popular local night club into a horrifying scene as a gunman pulled out a weapon and started shooting in the middle of a dance floor.

LIV Lounge in Dearborn was packed with people last Saturday night, when a fight broke out over a bottle of champagne. Dearborn Police Captain William Leavens said someone sprayed a bottle of champagne in the victims face, who then punched the champagne sprayer in the face.

In response, the sprayer turned into a shooter, police say, and shot the man in the arm right in front of a bunch of possible witnesses in the middle of the dance floor.

"We're fairly certain somebody saw the actual shooting take place. maybe the individual concealing the weapon out or pulling the weapon out just prior to the shooting," Leavens said.

Police are reviewing surveillance video taken by club cameras, but they are not releasing it to the public at this time. They also say they will now be keeping a closer eye on LIV Lounge as part of their ongoing investigation.

Nearby business owners didn't want to be identified but said LIV Lounge has a history of problems. Just a few months ago, they said a guy was waving a gun around in the parking lot.

"It's not a large establishment but on the dance floor, there were a lot of people around. It was a dangerous situation."

Captain Leavens says detectives are very close to making an arrest in this case, they just need at least one more solid witness to tell them what they saw. As an incentive, there's a reward for someone to come forward.

"Crime stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward and we would like to get the person responsible for this in custody," Leavens said.
