Detroit 86-year-old assaulted & burglarized in own home

- It was a terrifying experience for an 86-year-old woman when three men broke into her home in the middle of the night last week.

Just after 1:30 a.m. on February 9, 86-year-old Janet was asleep in her home on Longfellow near Woodward. That's when three men broke in, ransacked her home, and assaulted the woman.

Janet has lived in her home for 40 years and is Detroit through and through. Despite being covered in bruises after the attack that could have killed her, she's not moving.

"My reaction was, don't give them any trouble," Janet said. "When you live alone, you don't challenge you can't handle."

When the men broke into her home, she said she was hit on the head and knocked out. Then they ransacked her home and left her on the floor. She says she thinks she passed out briefly.

Police Sergeant Michael Woody said the elderly people of Detroit deserve better than that.

"We don't tolerate that at all. These are our elderly. These are the citizens that have brought this city to where it's at. We owe them respect and dignity."

Despite attacking an elderly woman, these guys didn't get away completely free. The three men were caught on surveillance cameras from a nearby business.

Detroit police say not long after the attack, they caught two men thanks to help from neighbors. Those two have been charged with home invasion, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, and felon in possession of a firearm. But they refuse to turn on the other man and police are asking for the public's help to track him down.

Janet said she has no doubts that police get their man.

"I think that's great. They'll get the third one, I'm sure." Janet said.

The third man is described as 15-21 years old, 5'6', and 130 pounds. Last seen wearing a hooded shirt, with a brown vest and blue jeans. Police ask anyone with information to come forward by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAKUP

"If anyone knows them and realizes what they've done. I would hope there would be somebody who would turn them in," Janet said.
