Detroit celebrates International Day of Happiness

On Saturday, many celebrated the United Nations-sanctioned International Day of Happiness, which actually takes place on Sunday.

The campaign is a global celebration coordinated by Action for Happiness, a non-profit organization of people from 160 countries, according to the celebration's official website. All 193 U.N. member states adopted resolutions that urged greater priority be given to happiness.

Detroit celebrated in its own way with a happiness wall at the Eastern Market. Anyone was invited to post a happy act going on in Detroit---a happy act is anything--- a simple act of kindness or gesture or an example of anyone spreading cheer.

"We're asking people to just stop by and sign a card and tell us what you do to pay it forward -- just share your happiness," a volunteer at the event said. "For every card that we get filled out, we get a dollar donated towards Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America, which is awesome."

For those who missed the happy acts posted on the wall at the Eastern market, many of them can be seen online at Twitter by searching #happyacts.
