Detroit father stabbed, found wrapped in plastic; 16-year-old relative arrested

A Detroit father of three was found stabbed to death and wrapped in plastic on Detroit's east side and police said a 16-year-old relate is responsible for the murder.

Detroit police say around 11:30 Wednesday night, a 35-year-old man got into an argument with a 16-year-old boy. It turned violent and police said the teen stabbed him several times killing him.

"It had to be something major or something going on for him to do that," neighbor Denise Hatten said.

Family has identified the victim as Demetrius Hamilton, a father to three. They also said he's related to the teen arrested.

Neighbors said the teen had been living at the home for six months.

"I see these young boys over all the time and I never expected anything like this," Hatten said.

Derryl Norman also lives in the area and says the teen was spotted walking Wednesday afternoon. He didn't remember seeing Hamilton.

"It was just shocking because I hadn't seen him yesterday. I was wondering because I usually see him every day," Norman said.

Hamilton was found until Wednesday night in the backyard of his home. Police discovered a trail of blood coming from his home but neighbors said they didn't hear anything.

"It had to have happened in the house. How'd his body end up out here?" Norman said.

Hamilton's family is understandably heartbroken and declined to comment. They said he's a loving father and they don't understand why anyone would do this.

The teen has not been identified and is currently awaiting charges.
