Detroit firefighter heroes honored

Day in and day out they risk their own lives to save others. The Detroit Fire Department is honoring members of the force who have gone above and beyond.

An incredible group of firefighters, arson investigators and EMTs were recognized for their actions Tuesday. From reviving unresponsive victims to cracking down on million dollar fraud cases, they've truly made a difference in the community.

Among those honored were a retired firefighter, Clyde Jackson, who noticed smoke coming from a house while driving home.

"I didn't have time to think about it. It was just, these people need help and I went and help them. It didn't even enter my mind with the fear, the danger, my hip or anything; I just went to work. I was just praying, hoping we could get everyone out in time and safe, and we did. That was the best part," he says.

He saved the lives of some disabled residents and their in-home care worker on Detroit's northwest side. Despite his own hip injury, he was able to bring everyone out safely before the house became fully engulfed.
