Detroit first responders honor those lost on 9/11

- The City of Detroit commemorated the 9/11 attacks Monday with a special event in Campus Martius.

Detroit first responders honored the brave men and women who lost their lives that fateful day with a solemn ceremony.

The tragic events are still fresh on our minds 16 years later.

"The images displayed over and over on our televisions will forever be ingrained in our memories," said Detroit Police Chief James Craig.

And it's important to remember the aftermath of those attacks is still being felt to this day. Many first responders are suffering health problems years later from breathing toxic dust.

But the important message here is that the American spirit lives on.

The annual memorial is now in its 15th year. City officials say they are united and working hard to keep Detroit safe.
