Detroit launches program to remove thousands of dead trees

- The City of Detroit is launching a new program to remove thousands of dead trees. Residents have complained in the past about dead trees cracking and falling onto their homes and cars.

Six thousand trees are expected to be removed in the next 9-12 months as part of the program. Three city crews and seven private vendors will do all the work.

The effort will cost about $3 million and will come from money left over from last year's snowfall, or lack thereof.

A tree survey helped picked out which ones would make the cut to be taken down first.
