Detroit medical marijuana facilities hit by thieves

Some bold bandits -- strike several marijuana dispensaries across Detroit - in one case -- they were caught on surveillance video.

"They break into it all the time," said resident Nicole Taylor. "I'm surprised anyone would want to have a business here in the neighborhood."

What may be more surprising is how many medical marijuana facilities get broken into, as a new video released to FOX 2 shows.  The guy claimed that the back door was open.

"It's definitely frustrating because we're here for patients and people who need their medicine," said Danny, the co-owner of CBD Gardens.

But early Thursday morning Detroit police caught a suspect trying to break into the Club Medz marijuana facility on Eight Mile and Cherrylawn.

"First I heard the same noise I heard before, the banging noise," said neighbor Kelvin Moorer. "Then I saw three guys with sledgehammers."

The criminals don't seem to care that most of these facilities have alarms and video.  Like one suspect back in December last year.  He tried to hide in the garbage to avoid the cops, but he got away.

"In two weeks we had four attempts," Danny said.

The owner of the medical marijuana facility said it happens about 20 to 30 times this year, and it's a crime to attempt to break in.

"The fear we have is that we don't want neighbors to think it's because of us, that crime is being committed around here," Danny said.
