DETROIT (WJBK) - Police in Detroit are searching for a man who robbed a mom as she was dropping her child off at at a Detroit daycare.
Destiny Grant was robbed at gunpoint Wednesday morning outside a Detroit head start on 7 Mile and Lesure.
"Just imagine you're taking your child to school and 'hey you have a visitor'," Grant said. "It was broad daylight and a lot of parents were out here. I couldn't believe it, I was like wow."
The 30-year-old mother of five says she parked her van across the street and dropped her daughters off around 9:30. As she walked back to her car, she noticed the man and knew something was off. Grant says the man's truck was parked right in front of hers, blocking her van in the alley.
"It was the look in his eyes, I knew something wasn't right. He had this one distinctive look in his eyes that really was pretty scary. I knew something was fishy, he had my stuff. I threw up my hands like what's up? He pulled the gun to show me 'hey don't come a step further'."
Grant said the man robbed her of about $400 and five credit cards. She cancelled all but one.
"And the crazy thing is, I left one credit card open for him to use as bait, and he bit the bait."
Detroit police are investigating if he's connected to other robberies and break-ins in the area.
"I couldn't sleep last night knowing he knew exactly where I stay and police haven't apprehended him yet," Grant said.
She said beyond the money and cards stolen, she also had photos of her late father in the wallet.
"This is devastating. Very devastating."
Grant is working to warn other parents and neighbors to stay alert. The CPL holder is also making a promise that she won't leave home without her gun again.
"Be aware of your surroundings. Do not leave your car doors open and if you can get a CPL, please do so."
