Detroit police investigating alcohol consumption as cause of 8-year-old's death, sources say

Detroit police are investigating the death of an 8-year-old child overnight on Detroit's east side.

Police say the child was taken to Children's Hospital for cardiac arrest. Police spoke with the grandmother, who told them the boy may have ingested some type of alcoholic beverage. Police sources tell FOX 2 someone brought some sort of alcoholic concoction to a party, and it's believed the boy drank some of it.

We're told a family member called 911 when the boy complained about not feeling well. The boy was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The boy was taken to the hospital from a home in the 19900 block of Conley Street, which is near Outer Drive and Mound Road. The 911 call came in around 1 a.m.

This is a developing story. Stay with FOX 2 for updates.
