Detroit police launch a new effort aimed at helping veterans and those in need they are calling it "Operation Outfit"- and they're in need of items to help them put their best foot forward.

Best for Vets is teaming up with the DPD

"People need help," said Styron Batchelor, Best for Vets. "I think we live in a society that because everybody has smart phones, flat screen TVs, we really don't understand how poor people can be."

"The support is overwhelming and the community always comes together," said Officer Sean Wilson, DPD. "We want them to come out and help our veterans. We want to get our veterans working. They served our country and we want to help them out."

Socks, underwear, toiletries and feminine hygiene products can be dropped off at all Detroit police precincts. Clothes can be donated at Detroit School for Digital Technology in southwest Detroit.

"This is our opportunity to help everybody that is in need," Batchelor said.

The culmination of all this giving is Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Detroit School for Digital Technology, 1759 W. 21st Street.
