Detroit police officer, suspect injured in scuffle over gun

A Detroit police officer and a suspect were injured in an altercation Friday night.

The incident happened during an arrest at 7:46 pm in the 15000 block of Greenfield after police responded to shots fired in the area.

A suspect dropped a gun reaching for his waistband, according to police. The suspect and an officer got into a scuffle when the suspect tried to pick up the firearm.

The suspect was taken into custody and no shots were fired in the confrontation. Both the suspect and the police officer were taken to the hospital to be evaluated.

The officer is in stable condition with minor injuries, the suspect is in temporary serious condition with non-life threatening injuries.
