DPS officer struck by vehicle during traffic stop; police look for suspect

A Detroit Public School officer was injured Thursday afternoon after being hit by a car on the east side.

The suspect struck the officer's foot after a traffic stop at about 4 p.m.

"The officer approached the vehicle, the individual in the vehicle ran over the officer's foot," said DPD Cmmdr. Arnold Williams. "And the officer was able to get back to his vehicle,

"He initiated a pursuit and tried to pursue the vehicle. The pursuit ended at I-94 and Rhones." 

The incident happened in the area near I-94 and Van Dyke. After a brief chase, the driver fled on foot in the area. 

The suspect is still being sought. 

"The last time he was seen he was west of Fisher going the I-94 service drive," said Williams.
