Some young ladies in Detroit hope to attend a national cheerleading competition, but they're low on funds.

The Detroit Lady Canes are the 2016 National Champs a the Pop Warner National Cheer and Dance Championships in Orlando, FL. All eight dancers have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

They want to go back to Florida to defend their title but they'll need some help paying for it. The competition is less than three weeks away.

The coach says it's more than a opportunity for the girls to perform.

"It's just a wonderful experience. Not only does Pop Warner - it's a dance category - it also gives scholarships to the kids that have a 3.0 better," said Kim Powell.

Coach Powell is getting  a late start raising money because of a tragedy last August.  That's when her nephew - Demond Grimes - was killed in an ATV crash that involved a Michigan State Trooper.

The team hopes to raise $7,000 to attend the competition in Florida. The donate to the fund Click Here  for their GoFundMe page.
