(WJBK) - A Detroiter is delivering a special thank you to the men and women in blue who risk their lives everyday to keep his neighborhood safe.
"The spirit told me to take care of those who take care of you," Earnest Cobb said.
And that's exactly what he's doing. Cobb donated turkeys this year for every officer at the DPD's 10th Precinct to enjoy.
An Army vet, Cobb says he wrote a book about winning casino jackpots and giving the money away to random people. He says he felt like he needed to show these police officers he cares.
"To be able to do something for the officers without asking for anything back is priceless," he said. "I just want to get the word out to love the police - period."
These officers say that message means a lot as they sometimes confront criticism for what they do
"It makes myself and all officers here feel very appreciated. We hear that message loud and clear he's not just saying it he's putting it into action with this palpable gift that he's putting here for us," said Commander Nick Kyriacou.
This is the third year Cobb has made this turkey delivery at this police station.
"I hope at the end of the day people understand that they are putting their life on the line on every call," Cobb said.
Cobb says he spent about $2,000 for the 111 turkeys but he says it did not set him back.
