Detroit's bloody weekend: 7 killed, 14 injured

- In the span of just a few days, seven Detroiters were killed and more than a dozen more were injured in bloody battles across the Motor City.

According to Detroit Police Chief James Craig, the second-most violent weekend of the year is emblematic of the city's larger problem: that it is desensitized to violence.

"21 victims both fatal and non fatal and of that number seven were fatal - 14 were non fatal," Craig said on Monday.

The violence started Friday morning and continued through Sunday. All told, seven were killed 14 were injured.

Despite the rash of violence, Craig said the city's homicide rate is the same as it was last year - 96.

"Our overall crime is still declining but we are in fact fighting our own progress," he said.
