Diners getting in last meals at Mexicantown staple

After more than three decades serving hungry customers in Detroit, a Mexicantown landmark is closing its doors.

El Zocalo will shut down this week.

The owner, Yvonne Cordoba is now 80 years old and ready to retire. The restaurant will host its final night of service on Sunday, September 4.

Patrons have begun paying thier last visits.

"I resided in southwest Detroit for over 30 years and this used to eb our local spot to come and have dinner, and I was sorry to read the article that they're closing down. So, we came one last time for nostalgia's sake," Elizabeth Oraiqat told FOX 2 outside of the restaurant.

El Zocalo was founded in 1983 by Yvonne's husband, Victor Cordoba, an immigrant from Costa Rica. He died in 2013.

The 13,000 square foot restarunt is now for sale.

The asking price is $1.5 million and includes all the equipment and a liquor license.
