Distracted driving suspected in crash that kills woman, 5-year-old on US-23

Distracted driving is suspected in leading to a four-car accident that killed a woman and a young girl.

The crash happened at 6 p.m. Friday on US-23 north of Summerfield Road in Summerfield Township, caused by a 27-year-old man from Holt heading southbound in a Dodge Ram.

His pick-up truck and crashed into a the rear of a 35-year-old Ohio woman's Hyundai Elantra, killing her and her 5-year-old passenger in the back seat.

The force of the crash sent the Ohio woman's car into the rear of a Toyota Solara, while the truck then struck the rear of a 2012 Cadillac CTS.

Both the 35-year-old woman and her 5-year-old passenger, also from Ohio, were pronounced dead at the scene. Everyone else involved in the crash refused medical treatment and were released.

All the drivers involved and their passengers were wearing safety belts and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
