Dog stabbed 9 times gets new home with vet

- A Chesterfield man is sitting in jail on animal cruelty charges after police say he stabbed his dog nine times for going to the bathroom on the floor.

The heartless attack took place earlier this month. The dog, 2-year-old Harley Quinn, is a pitbull mix and she's recovering after the Feb. 1 attack with a new home waiting for her.

Chesterfield Township police say a woman brought Harley to Advanced Animal Emergency in Clinton Township. Police identified her ex-boyfriend as the man responsible.

Patrick O'Connor was arrested and told police that he has an alcohol and anger management problem. He said he attacked the dog because she went to the bathroom on the floor.

Veterinarian Madeline Lutz was there when the miracle dog came in.

"Knowing where the abscesses are, how did it miss her heart? We just don't know," Lutz said.

O'Connor  was arrested for assaulting a 29-year-old woman just 10 days later. He's charged with domestic violence and torture of an animal and could get four years in prison.

"I know that can change people's demeanors and it's scary that there's people like that in this world."

A wound in Harley's chest became infected and Veterinarian Madeline Lutz says after undergoing surgery, she's is doing much better. Now, Harley has a new home with Lutz.

"I don't know. She was just different. There's something about her."

Harley is on antibiotics and becoming more outgoing by the day. Lutz says she's thankful the person who did this is caught and that she has a new family member who is a sweet

"She's very sweet, she's very lucky and she's come a long way," Lutz said.

But it's not just Lutz, Harley has an entire family with two little boys who can't wait to meet her. Lutz will take Harley home next week and plans to "spoil her rotten."
