21-year-old victim Stevan Henderson and 13-year-old girl Aaliayah Thomas were fatally shot inside this car on Tuesday.

Police are searching for two gunmen after two people were killed and others were injured in a shooting on Detroit's east side Tuesday afternoon. A 13-year-old and a 21-year-old were killed in the shooting, and a 7-year-old and a 14-year-old were also seriously injured.

Stevan Henderson, the 21 year old, appears to be the target in the shooting on Hayes and Troester. Police are now trying to figure out why.

Henderson had just picked up some kids from school and pulled into the parking lot of a liquor store around 4:30 p.m. A 13-year-old girl was in the passenger seat, and sitting on the hood of the car was a 7-year-old boy and 14-year-old girl.

Police say two men armed with handguns walked up and opened fire. Henderson tried to escape the bullets, but sped right into the building across the street.

Henderson and 13-year-old Aaliayah Thomas were killed. The 7-year-old boy and 13-year-old girl were injured when they were thrown from the car, and one was run over. The 13-year-old girl is in critical condition and may lose her leg. The boy is in temporary serious condition.

The suspects are described as a black male wearing a blue hoodie with a silver handgun, and a black male wearing a black hoodie with a black handgun. They took off running from the scene.

"It was violent," Detroit Police Chief James Craig says. "You're talking about a situation people being seated in the car, seated on the hood [and two suspects] opened fire on vehicle."

At the scene, red cups covered the 14 shell casings. Henderson's family heard what happened and rushed to the scene.

"He was a wonderful young man; he didn't do anything," said one woman.  "He worked every day, had three jobs, didn't do anything."

"I can't believe it," said Danielle Foster, Henderson's cousin. "I really can't believe it, not Steve. He is so quiet, he works, he doesn't bother anybody."

"He was a good guy," said Unique Foster, Henderson's girlfriend. "He didn't have any beefs, he wasn't in a gang or anything."

At this point police don't believe the shooting was gang related - but still don't have a motive.

"It is crazy," Unique Foster said.  "It's sad you can't go anywhere without getting killed, shot at, people hating."
